Marudo Koi Farm in Nagaoka, Niigata, run by Dainichi-trained Hisashi Hirasawa, specialises in Showa and also breeds Kohaku, Sanke and Chagoi.
Marudo Koi Farm is based in Nagaoka, Niigata, and is run by Hisashi Hirasawa. Hirasawa joined Dainichi Koi Farm straight out of junior high school as its third employee and trained there for 18 years under Minoru Mano. His father was also a koi breeder, and Hirasawa went on to run the family farm, Marudo. The farm mainly breeds Showa, Sanke and Kohaku, and names Showa as its specialty; it also produces varieties including Chagoi and Karashigoi. The farm's own site lists a Jumbo overall championship at the 47th All Japan Nishikigoi Show.
