Hosokai Koi Farm of Ojiya, Niigata, founded 1971 by Shoichi Hosokai and run by his son Masaru, is known for award-winning Asagi and Goshiki.

Hosokai Koi Farm is in the Wakatochi area of Ojiya, Niigata, where the Hosokai family had farmed rice for generations. Shoichi Hosokai turned the family's paddies into koi ponds after the 1970 rice-reduction policy, and the farm gives 1971 as its founding year. Starting from Asagi parent stock obtained around 1983 from a breeder named Watada, its Asagi have won awards at the All Japan Nishikigoi Show since the 17th show in 1986, despite the farm's clay soil. Its Goshiki, bred from parent stock selected in 1992, became the farm's best seller, including abroad. Shoichi's son Masaru Hosokai, the second generation, runs the farm now.
