Farm

Chogoro (Yamacho) Koi Farm in Kawaguchi, Niigata, breeds mainly Platinum Ogon from a line its founder began around 1965.

Chogoro Koi Farm, also listed as Yamacho Koi Farm, is run by a member of the Hiroi family in the Kawaguchi area of Niigata. The farm specialises in Platinum Ogon, and WCB International says about 99% of its breeding is this variety. Kodama Koi Farm says the owner's father started around 1965 by crossing a female Platinum from Yamazaki Koi Farm with a male Gin Matsuba from Hoshiyone Koi Farm. Kodama also reports that the farm culls three times each summer, keeping about 6,000 of 100,000 fry. Dealers list Goshiki, Gin Matsuba, Kikokuryu and some Go-Sanke as secondary varieties.
