Isa Koi Farm was founded in 1970 in Ojiya City, Niigata Prefecture, and is now run by the second generation, Mitsunori Isa. The farm has produced mainly the Gosanke varieties of Showa Sanshoku, Taisho Sanshoku and Kohaku, and today concentrates on Showa and Kohaku. Its Showa are known for the beauty of their sumi (black pattern), which is why they are called "Isa Showa". In a 2011 interview the farm said Showa made up about 70% of its production, and that an Isa Showa typically grows to about 80 cm. An Isa Showa won Grand Champion at the 50th Niigata Nishikigoi Show in 2010.
